Scheduled to launch on May 1, 2026, EDAM will expand the benefits of day-ahead market coordination across the West, improving reliability and optimizing resources for millions of customers.
EDAM’s Role: Optimizing Western Resources for Reliability
PacifiCorp is a Portland-based grid operator serving six Western states. PacifiCorp CEO Cindy Crane highlighted the importance of this step forward:
“A modern, coordinated day-ahead market in the West is vital to optimizing the region’s energy resources so we can continue to provide reliable and affordable power to our 2 million electricity customers across six states.”
MCG Energy: Ready for Day One
At MCG Energy, we’re proud to play a role in this transformation. Our platform will be fully integrated with EDAM from day one, ensuring our customers are ready to participate seamlessly as the market goes live.
This milestone underscores the momentum toward a more connected, resilient, and cost-effective energy future—and we’re excited to help our partners lead the charge.
From Real-Time to Day-Ahead: EDAM’s Evolution
EDAM builds on CAISO’s Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM), which has already delivered real-time coordination across the West. EDAM further enables day-ahead energy trading and resource optimization across multiple balancing authorities—an expansion designed to:
⚡ Improve grid reliability and resource efficiency
💰 Lower costs through broader market access
🌎 Support renewable integration across the Western Interconnection
Onboarding timelines are mapped out for 2026 activation.
By combining our proven technology with EDAM’s expanded framework, MCG Energy is helping energy providers like PacifiCorp unlock greater efficiency, reliability, and sustainability across the West.
MCG Energy customers won’t just be ready for EDAM—they’ll be positioned to lead in a more connected and resilient energy future.
Who Else Is Joining EDAM?
In addition to PacifiCorp, several other entities have expressed interest or signed agreements, signaling momentum toward regional market integration in the West:
- Portland General Electric: Signed an implementation agreement and plans to participate in the market.
- Balancing Authority of Northern California (BANC): Consists of six utilities and has signed an agreement to join.
- Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP): Has an approved implementation agreement.
- Turlock Irrigation District (TID): Signed an implementation agreement to join EDAM.
- Imperial Irrigation District (IID): Signed an implementation agreement to join EDAM and the WEIM.
- Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM): Has committed to join the EDAM.
How DAME Supports EDAM’s Foundation
In parallel, CAISO’s Day-Ahead Market Enhancements (DAME) received full FERC approval. DAME introduces new market products—like imbalance reserves and reliability capacity—that will be foundational to EDAM and will roll out at the same time. These enhancements are designed to better reflect system needs and improve operational flexibility.
Achieving Early EDAM Readiness
With FERC’s green light and implementation agreements underway, EDAM is on track for its 2026 debut. MCG Energy is working closely with market participants to ensure seamless integration and early readiness.
